IN-SITU DIAGNOSTICS
For optical, in-situ diagnostics, the lab has the following capabilities:
- Particle Shadow Velocimetry (PSV), which can measure particle size, particle sphericity and an approximately planar particle velocity. This method utilizes a Photron FASTCAM-APX RS high-speed video camera, a laser powered backlight and a microscopic lens.
- Optical Infrared Emission, which can measure the line-of-sight, two-dimensional, infrared heat flux. This method utilizes a FLIR SC-6703 mid-wave infrared high-speed camera
- Optical Flow Velocimetry (OFV), which can measure the line-of-sight, two-dimensional velocity of the flame front. This method can be used with either the visible spectrum or infrared high-speed camera.
- Narrow-band, to-color pyrometry, which can measure the line-of-sight, two-dimensional soot temperature and volume fraction. It also can measure the flame standoff distance. This method utilizes a Photron FASTCAM-APX RS high-speed video camera, two narrow-band filters and a custom-built, beam splitter/mirror/filter mount.
- Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV), which can measure the two-dimensional, planar particle velocity. This method utilizes a planar laser sheet and a visible spectrum camera.
